FORTY TWO SECOND ENGINE CHANGE!

In 1985, a team of Royal Marines set the world record for the fastest engine swap, a record that remains unbeaten.

Swapping an engine is a complex task, typically taking professionals eight to 15 hours, while DIYers might need several days. Even F1 teams, with their expertise, require two to six hours for an engine change.

Despite the challenge, the Royal Marines completed an engine swap in a Ford Escort in just 42 seconds, as verified by Guinness World Records and shown on BBC’s Record Breakers. They started with a running engine, stopped it to begin the record attempt, replaced the engine, and drove the car 10 meters with the new engine within the time limit.

The closest attempt to this record was in 2005 by four Australian VW mechanics, who swapped a Volkswagen Beetle’s engine in 1 minute and 4 seconds. While they set a new record for Beetles, the Royal Marines' record for the fastest overall engine swap still holds.
