CITROEN 2CV

DIPSTICK BARRIE BYERS

This is a new project that fell into my lap a couple of months ago. I’ve always liked the quirkiness of the 2CV van and went online for a poke around and this one was for sale locally. I knew the vehicle as it was at Classic Cars and Coffee each month promoting tyres but thought it was a bit scruffy.

I went to look at it in Osborne Park and found that it had been vinyl wrapped as a Michelin advertisement, and the paintwork underneath was in good shape. The previous owner used it as a promotional item, and it had never been licensed in the six years it had been in WA.  I wasn’t really looking to buy, and I hadn’t asked permission at home, but after making a silly offer which was accepted, I drove it home where a fine meal of hot tongue and cold shoulder was served.

I attacked it with a hair dryer, a plastic scraper and a bottle of De-solv-it and it’s almost back to normal now.

I hope to have it on the road in a couple of weeks.

(When fitting the new shock absorbers, I looked at the ones on my 2CV sedan, Dolly, for reference and found that all four shock absorbers were fitted upside down! Easily done I suppose as they are mounted almost horizontally due to the peculiar nature of the 2CV suspension.)
